On The Run
This song came from my imagination, as so many times is the case when writing a song. I was driving down the interstate one day alone in my truck. I passed the exit in Only, Tennessee, where the Turney corrections facility is located. I worked inside the facility on previous occasions. I was speeding down the highway looking for a sign because I really didn't know where I was going that day. I tried to take my mind to a place of being an escaped prisoner on the run, and this song is the result of my wild fantasy.
Lyrics
On The Run
Speeding down the highway, looking for a sign
Lost and troubled in this state of mind
Whatever it takes to get to Tennessee
Dealing with the devil and I’m never getting free
Now I’m on the run
From a lawman’s gun
Desperate and undone
Busted out of prison, now I’m on run
Brother sent a message, said mommas fallen ill
She’s calling my name, so I’ve got no time kill
The only one who loves me, want to see her one last time
So I broke out this morning, heading for the county line
Tried to tie me down to a ball and chain
I did what they said, There’s no one else to blame
If those old boys catch me I hope they shoot me down
Cause I ain’t goin’ back, they’ll have to lay me in the ground
