Goodbye Marie is a Kenny Rogers song from 1979. It was written by Dennis Linde and Mel McDaniel and tells the story of someone who goes to Mexico and falls for a girl he can't stay with.
"I first heard Goodbye Marie in 2014 when I first discovered the album Wired! by the band Livewire. I was immediately drawn to it but didn't think about working it up until 2021. We dig the song so much we've played it in just about every performance since then, so it had to go on the album!"

Lyrics
I woke up this morning cotton-mouthed from drinking
Wondering how to make it through the day
Wild eyed and crazy all burnt out from thinking
Wondering how the hell I'm gonna say
Goodbye Marie oh goodbye Marie
Out the window there's a lonesome highway calling me
It was fun Marie but I gotta run Marie
If I cannot keep your love at least I'll have your memory goodbye Marie
Waking up beside you Tijuana morning
With that ocean breeze to keep us cool
Three weeks of loving twenty one nights of heaven
I stayed long enough to be your fool
Goodbye Marie oh goodbye Marie
Out the window there's a lonesome highway calling me
It was fun Marie but I gotta run Marie
If I cannot keep your love at least I'll have your memory goodbye Marie
Por favor pour me one more tequila
I need all the courage I can find
This time tomorrow I'll be back in Houston
Talking about the girl I left behind
Goodbye Marie oh goodbye Marie
Out the window there's a lonesome highway calling me
It was fun Marie but I gotta run Marie
If I cannot keep your love at least I'll have your memory goodbye Marie
Goodbye Marie oh goodbye Marie
Out the window there's a lonesome highway calling me
It was fun Marie but I gotta run Marie
If I cannot keep your love at least I'll have your memory goodbye Marie
Goodbye Marie oh goodbye Marie
Out the window there's a lonesome highway calling me
It was fun Marie but I gotta run Marie
If I cannot keep your love at least I'll have your memory goodbye Marie
