Sit and Watch It Rain was written by Jack Dunlap, also in 2020, during his "rediscovering the guitar" stages. It, too, was going to be featured on his solo bluegrass record that eventually became Stumblin' Out The Gate.
"Sit and Watch It Rain is a classic heartbreak song. A man torn down by losing his love; he can only find peace and satisfaction when it's raining. I also use rain as a drinking metaphor, so this song is about how loneliness and desperation can lead to unhealthy habits and addiction."
Lyrics
If I sit and watch it rain I won't think about the pain
You left here in my heart when you tore my world apart
You cheated and you lied and you left me feeling dried
All my hope has been drained so I'll sit and watch it rain
It's another sorry tale of a love that's gone stale
I'm a victim so they say of a love she threw away
I'll plan my great escape and it starts to take shape
When the rain begins to fall I don't think of you at all
If I sit and watch it rain I won't think about the pain
You left here in my heart when you tore my world apart
You cheated and you lied and you left me feeling dried
All my hope has been drained so I'll sit and watch it rain
When the rain begins to fall I don't think of you at all
See the Earth be made a new till the sun comes shining through
Till the sky turns to grey my world is in dismay
I don't have to run away if I can sit and watch it rain
If I sit and watch it rain I won't think about the pain
You left here in my heart when you tore my world apart
You cheated and you lied and you left me feeling dried
All my hope has been drained so I'll sit and watch it rain
If I sit and watch it rain I won't think about the pain
You left here in my heart when you tore my world apart
You cheated and you lied and you left me feeling dried
All my hope has been drained so I'll sit and watch it rain
If I sit and watch it rain I won't think about the pain
You left here in my heart when you tore my world apart
You cheated and you lied and you left me feeling dried
All my hope has been drained so I'll sit and watch it rain
